Personal note: I am a local ghost/history tour operator. That is how I make my living. I operate in one city and have for years. I sometimes get into meetings with other local operators, and I have seen people break down as nationals move into their markets, imitate their identity, and take customers they did not earn. I have seen operators hand over brutal percentages to the OTAs just to try to stay alive.
I have also watched nationals flood markets with bad incentives, weak standards, and stories that do not belong to them. They do not care about the city the way locals do. They care about scale, control, and extraction. The OTAs enable it, and I am done accepting it.
I believe this season is going to matter. I am worried we are going to lose more local companies if we keep waiting. Something has to be done while we still can. Hear me out. Let’s exchange ideas, organize, and take action. Please join.
